Oral surgeons and dentists alike love the month of February. No, the dental love for February isn’t because of the tremendous amount of candy consumed on Valentine’s Day (though it does contribute to an increase of cavities!). Instead, dental professionals enjoy February because it is the month that four dental holidays are celebrated and awareness is promoted. These include:
- Children’s Dental Health Month – Brings oral awareness to children’s dental health to both kids and parents
- Valentine’s Day – Promotes general oral health awareness, bad breath reduction, and smile enhancement
- Pet Dental Health Month – Encourages dental awareness and action for pets, which in turn makes pet-owners think of oral health for the whole family
- National Tooth Fairy Day – Makes children more aware of their teeth and caring for the teeth they do have, while hoping for tooth-fairy visits for any missing teeth.
Though oral surgeons encourage dental health all year long, they especially shed a sorrowful tear February 28th hoping that Februarian dental awareness and action continue throughout the whole year… or at least through March. Want to make your oral surgeon and dentist smile? Show them through your own oral health care routine and dental awareness that their recommendations have made a healthy difference.
